With an increasing emphasis on sustainability within the construction sector, the need to provide sustainable materials and production processes is fast becoming a key consideration at all levels of the supply chain.
At Cre8 Joinery Solutions, we understand the importance of using sustainable materials in order to protect the environment. So, how exactly do we do this?
FSC certified timber
One of the key ways we ensure we’re working sustainably is through using FSC-certified timber on the vast majority of our projects.
FSC-certified timber operates on the basis of its ten principles which contribute to responsible forest management globally. These principles include complying with laws, contributing to the socio-economic wellbeing of local communities, mitigating any negative environmental impacts, and implementing adaptive management.
We’re confident that as a business we’re doing our bit to protect the planet through choosing to source timber which has been approved by the FSC, meaning the forests which produce it are managed in a way that’s mindful of the environment, local community and wildlife.
As well as using sustainably-sourced timber, we’ve invested in technologies to ensure our production methods are sustainable. This means cutting down on waste throughout the production process, which we’ve been able to do thanks to our centralised dust extraction system and biomass boiler.
This extraction system collects all waste to one central point, which is then used to fuel our huge on-site biomass boiler, keeping our factory as energy-efficient as possible and reducing our environmental impact. Powered using wood off-cuts and able to burn up to 450 tonnes of wood which would otherwise have been wasted per year, it’s estimated to save 52 carbon emissions each year.
Along with our new biomass boiler, we’ve upgraded our dust extraction systems to the InteliAir™ Intelligent Air Control System, which links to our machinery to control its use more effectively. The system is able to constantly monitor machine data through sensors, turning on the dust extraction units only when required, meaning it both improves air quality within the factory and reduces our carbon footprint.
