We’re so proud of one of our newest and youngest recruits – joinery apprentice Joseph Holmes. He’s a fantastic addition to the Cre8 team and here’s how it all started.
18-year old Joseph, who is currently in his second year studying Carpentry at Waltham Forest College, started his journey with us in March this year. As part of a project we were undertaking at Waltham Forest Town Hall at the time, we teamed up with the council to offer work experience placements to a number of local college students to give them valuable experience working on a live site under the supervision of our team and Joseph was one of these students.
All of them were excellent and worked extremely hard on site but Joseph immediately stood out from his peers thanks to his attitude, his boundless enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. It was clear that carpentry was a real passion of his, having been taught by both his uncle and grandad from an early age. He was fascinated by the project, asking questions all the time and he even volunteered to work on site at the weekend to help the rest of the team. And because he had such a great attitude and keenness to work, we decided to arrange for him to have a few weeks of extra experience in our factory so he could see how we craft bespoke items prior to them going to site to give him a fuller understanding of the whole Cre8 process.
Within a day of being in the factory, Peter Blair our production director and Ian Howell our joinery manager had both been so impressed by his attitude that they suggested that we should take him on as an apprentice there and then. He started working as an apprentice in our factory in June and we’ve not looked back.
Colin McCarthy, Waltham Forest Town Hall site manager said, “Joe’s attitude, enthusiasm and interest to learn has been a breath of fresh air from the first moment he arrived on site. His request to work additional days over and above the mandatory college requirements enabled him to also experience working within our joinery factory, where he made the same positive impression on our factory manager and the rest of the team, just as he had done with our site team. It’s been a pleasure to meet Joe and we know he will be a great addition to the company over the coming years.”
If this year is anything to go by, he’s destined for great things at Cre8. Welcome to the team Joseph!
