The prestigious multi-let office building, which was originally built during the First World War, stands in the heart of central London, just around the corner from Covent Garden on Aldwych. The building has been completely refurbished as part of a project undertaken by leading office design and fit out company, Modus with our team providing high specification bespoke joinery and fit-out.

Working closely with Modus over eight short weeks, we fitted out the new interior of the ground floor including the new reception desk and seating area as well as three additional upper floors of the building and new washroom facilities.

The reception area of any building is where first impressions are made so creating an entrance space to set the tone for the rest of the building was an essential element to our brief. The large bespoke reception desk fit the brief perfectly. We manufactured the desk with internal carcassing in high performance FENIX NTMĀ® laminate, and faced it with porcelain marble-effect white and grey veined tiles from Solus, which were specified to match the wall tiles. Our team mitred and book matched each tile used on the reception desk to conceal any joins and ensure that the veins within the marble tiles continue perfectly around corners to give the impression of it being a solid marble desk.

We manufactured the cantilevered client waiting bench using the same Solus 9mm porcelain marble-effect mitred stone cladding together with dark walnut stained real wood veneer feature wall panelling which runs throughout the reception area. The feature wall panels were all hung on frameworks which incorporated a stylish coloured plinth detail with inset LED lighting to complete the striking reception area.

Working with our in-house washroom division, Washroom Washroom, we also refreshed the male and female washroom areas for floors 6, 8 and 9 to match the reception area and lift lobbies. We revamped the existing vanity units with new under-panels, as well as installing Concerto integrated duct panels in a laminate finish and installing new paper towel bins to keep the space clean, clear and clutter free as well as low maintenance. At the same time, the team re-polished the existing stone vanity units to make them look like new and saving the client the cost of completely replacing them.

We also worked closely with Modus to create bespoke fire rated raft ceilings on the same four levels of the building. These included concealed access panels for M&E services to provide access for facilities managers carrying out future maintenance while the real wood veneer slats we used, which were stained to match the same dark walnut wood in the reception area, make the raft ceiling an attractive part of the design as well as a practical feature.
